First Picture of New Bike July 10, 2010 |
This is my R100RT "in progress". Shot taken October 2010 in the middle of a ride to Brattleboro, VT. Since the first picture the tall rack was removed, tires replaced, wheel bearings repacked, carburetors rebuilt, valve clearance reset, oil/filter change, mechanical advance rebuilt, steering damper realigned, steering head properly adjusted, engine front panel replaced with a grille, fused power outlet and GPS added, windscreen trimmed to a new profile and repaired, general tune up and a lot of little details brought up to standard.
She is a great highway bike on days below 60F. There is certainly more room on board this ride than any other two wheeler I own. It is a comfortable way to eat up the miles with a bit of wind in my face.
Still to go is a full brake reconditioning with new rubber parts and repair of a stripped thread at the rear drive fill level plug. I'm also watching the exhaust valve clearance to see if recession is a problem. When I received the bike the exhaust valves were about 0.001" clearance cold. Compression was 130# 125# so I guess the valves weren't destroyed. Time will tell. To date I've put about 3,000 miles on her.
